End of the Year Reflection
Although 2012 brought many challenges to the Institute, we were also fortunate enough to have experienced many numerous blessings. Although State funding was cut by 100% and City funding was also reduced, we were so fortunate in oh so many ways that will never be discounted or forgotten. Donors and Volunteers came to the rescue sharing the best that they had to offer so that our treasured Landmark facility could remain open, and continue serving the community through its life enriching programs. These unselfish community minded individuals helped to keep the Doorway to Opportunity opened one more year allowing us to make it to our 145th Anniversary.
We also thank our political leaders for their continued support. People such as Councilman Dan Halloran ($500,000 in support), and Borough President Helen Marshall ($1,000,000), for their securing the capital funds needed for the completion of the restoration of the exterior of the Institute.
